Description: The ACCG Monitoring workgroup and the SOFAR Landscape Design Team will host a one day field tour that will highlight ongoing restoration planning efforts in the Caldor Fire building upon an earlier field tour which highlighted ongoing monitoring and research in the Power Fire. We hope this field tour will provide on-the-ground examples and the opportunity to discuss past and future management plans for wildfire recovery in mixed-conifer forests and riparian areas.

California is facing unprecedented wildfires how can we respond? In today’s fire regime, we need a diverse toolbox to respond effectively and sustainably manage the land to prevent catastrophic wildfires. The California Range Management Advisory Committee, an advisory body to the California Natural Resources Agency under the Board of Forestry and Fire Protection, is co hosting a workshop with the University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources Program to discuss the use of prescribed livestock grazing as a sustainable fuel reduction and environmental management tool.

Wildland fires have a relationship and purpose within the environment. Some ecosystems are well adapted to fire and actually need it to maintain heth, others are negatively affected and can be devastated by fires. Join us as Professor Scott Abella with the school of Life Sciences at UNLV explores how fire shapes ecosystems and how they have impacted places like Wetlands Park and lands of the West.

Mountains Restoration Trust (MRT) and Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers & Native Plants (TPF) are hosting a timely and innovative, self-guided tour to show how native plant landscaping can help protect properties in high-risk fire areas. The tour features three Calabasas homes, each with at least 50% California natives. Docents will be on hand to discuss design and maintenance techniques that minimize danger to the home, including plant selection and home preparation.
