Forest Health and Wildfire Research Scoping:
Needs, Opportunities, and a Roadmap for the Next 10 Years
Association for Fire Ecology’s 10th International Fire and Management Congress
Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel, Spyglass I
Monday, December 4th, from 1 pm to 5 pm
CAL FIRE, Berkeley Forests, and the California Fire Science Consortium are sponsoring an afternoon workshop at the 10th International Fire Ecology and Management Congress to highlight ongoing fire-related research programs in California. This workshop will feature presentations from CAL FIRE funded research projects and provide a forum for discussing future research needs and knowledge gaps, and to create a roadmap for research collaboration and integration with policymakers and land managers in California and other fire prone regions.
Workshop attendees will be asked to participate in a facilitated large group discussion focused on better understanding ongoing needs for monitoring, identification of knowledge and data gaps, and future directions for research.
Results from the panel and group discussion will be pulled together into a white paper that will be distributed by the California Fire Science Consortium (CFSC) and shared with the Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force, the Board of Forestry and Fire Protection, CAL FIRE, the USFS, and other agency partners. Workshop participants will be encouraged to participate in developing the white paper by providing input on recommendations.
