Northern California Prescribed Fire Council Spring Meeting 2019

  • Inn at 2nd & C 139 2nd Street eureka, CA 95501 (map)

Registration is now open for the Northern California Prescribed Fire Council annual meeting, coming up May 7-8 in Humboldt County! The focus this year will be on prescribed fire on private lands, and there's no better place for this theme than Humboldt County, where the Humboldt County Prescribed Burn Association has been working hard to bring fire back into the private lands toolbox!
View Eventbrite Page for registration >

Register by May 1 to enjoy updates and conversation with fire scientists and managers from across the North State! Topics will include:

  • Prescribed fire trends in California and how agencies can facilitate more prescribed fire (Hugh Scanlon, retired CAL FIRE Unit Chief)

  • Statewide policy movement

  • Updates from the Humboldt County Prescribed Burn Association (Jeff Stackhouse), the Plumas Underburn Cooperative (Hannah Hepner), and Sonoma County's Good Fire Alliance (Jared Childress) - all grassroots private lands burning groups in the North State

  • The latest from Will Harling and the Western Klamath Restoration Partnership

  • Updates from CAL FIRE on liability issues, plus their new prescribed fire crews and monitoring efforts (speakers TBA)

  • Gaining perspective from the Carr Fire in an era of megafires (NPS Fire Ecologist Eamon Engber)

  • New research on fuel moisture dynamics in North Coast oak woodlands (Jeff Kane)

  • Update from the Cultural Fire Management Council (Margo Robbins)

  • Reflections on prescribed fire culture in northern CA and beyond (Lenya Quinn-Davidson)

  • Flash presentations on related topics by Council members (including you, if you have something to share!)

  • And more!

We will also enjoy a field tour of some of the burns conducted by the Humboldt County Prescribed Burn Association in the last year. These areas are gorgeous in May!

The meeting will take place at the Historic Eagle House (Inn at 2nd and C) in Old Town Eureka, and will include an evening social in their new bar. We always have such a great time together!
