Squad Leader – Advanced Fire Lighter Workshop
Firelighter: A new term used to describe a person that conducts prescribed burns.
V.
Firefighter: A person whose job is to extinguish fires.
‘Firelighter trainings’ are a series of unaccredited courses (they do not result in NWCG certificates) intended to supply PBA members with the practical knowledge and skills to excel and advance in the roles you may fill during prescribed burns. Even if you’ve taken an ‘equivalent’ NWCG class, these firelighter workshops still have value, as they focus primarily on local and practical knowledge and skills.
Description: Get an introduction to fire line leadership skills, the tools to grow into a capable leader, and gain valuable tips and tricks from current PBA squad leaders. Then we’ll go out into the field to practice some essential squad leader skills.
Prerequisites: Low/Moderate Fire Experience (3-5 Rx burns minimum). Participants should have a basic understanding of the fire environment, fireline safety, and Rx fire operations.
Cost: Free!
